Dual Credit Program
The School College Work Initiative (SCWI) offers the dual credit programs that allow Grade 11 and 12 students the opportunity to take college courses, or apprenticeship Level 1 courses, while pursuing their Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD). In the dual credit program, students earn both a college and secondary school credit, while having the opportunity to gain a better understanding of their career pathway post-secondary school. For all eligible students, dual credit programs foster and support learning, help build self-confidence and provide the experience of life on a college campus.
Dual credits are designed to help secondary students complete their high school diplomas and make successful transitions to college and/or apprenticeship programs. While all students in Grade 11 and 12 students are eligible to apply to the dual credit program, the primary focus is on those students facing the challenges in completing their OSSD requirements. This includes:
- Disengaged and underachieving students with the potential to succeed but are at risk of not graduating from high school.
- Students who are part of a Specialist High Skills Major (SHSM) program.
- Students participating in the Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Program (OYAP).
The dual credit program is offered in conjunction with St. Lawrence College (Kingston, Brockville, Cornwall) and Algonquin College. Students are eligible to apply to dual credit programs offered at the closest college campus to their high school and to any apprenticeship Level 1 courses, without the restriction of the closest campus requirement.
The dual credit program is offered in Fall, Winter and Spring term. To learn more about the available dual credit courses and application process, please book an appointment with Student Services at your school.
