Equity and Inclusion


The Upper Canada District School Board is committed to creating learning environments where every student feels welcomed, valued, respected, and supported to succeed. We are actively working towards reducing achievement gaps and improving learning outcomes for all students.

We recognize that students come to school with diverse identities, experiences, cultures, languages, perspectives, and strengths. By creating inclusive learning environments and ensuring students see themselves reflected in their learning, we support student engagement, achievement, well-being, and future success.

Supporting All Learners 

Across the district, students engage in learning experiences that connect curriculum to their identities, communities, and the world around them. These opportunities help students build understanding, celebrate diversity, and contribute meaningfully to their school communities.

Here are some examples of this focus in action:

Kid creating food artCelebrating Identity Through Food, Language, and Student Voice (Eamer’s Corners Public School)

Students at Eamer's Corners Public School explored identity, culture, and belonging through a project that blended visual arts, oral communication, and student voice. Students created artistic representations of foods that are meaningful to them and shared their stories using English, French, and home languages. Through this experience, students built confidence, strengthened communication skills, and celebrated the diversity they bring to school each day.


Exploring Local History Through Diverse Perspectives (Seaway District High School, North Dundas District High School, Iroquois Public School)

Students from Seaway District High School were among the first to experience the new Black History Program at Upper Canada Village, an interactive exhibit running throughout February. North Dundas District High School and Iroquois Public School also explored this exhibit. These visits offered students the chance to connect with history in their own communities and reflect on the enduring impact of these pioneers.
