 What do Student Trustees do?

A Student Trustee is a representative of the students for the school board and are present at the board table. They offer insights, opinions or perspectives on behalf of all students in the UCDSB. The role of the Student Trustee has three key elements where they represent the views of students or support student leadership:

  1. Serving as the Chairperson of the UCDSB Student Senate. The Senate meets four times in-person (with virtual meetings in between) during the school year, with representatives from each UCDSB secondary school;
  2. Attending Board Meetings held by the public school board in Brockville. These meetings are usually held on the second and fourth Wednesday evening, each month. The Student Trustees presents brief reports to the Board of Trustees after Senate meetings (and every Board meeting if they so choose).
  3. Attending the two Ontario Student Trustee Association’s (OSTA-AECO) conferences (Toronto / Ottawa), as well as being an active member of this organization.

Currently, the term of office for the Student Trustee is August 1, 2023 to July 31, 2024. An honorarium of $2,500 is provided to the Student Trustee at the end of their term of office.

Student Trustees Elections for the 2024-2025 term will take place on February 26, 2024.
