Quick Tips for Digital Remote Learners

January 7, 2022 (Brockville, ON) - For our students who are participating digitally during this remote learning period, here are some tips and reminders you might find helpful:

Getting Set Up

  • Find a place to work that has good internet signal strength (near the router/modem) and that is quiet with few distractions. Using headphones can be helpful to block out what might be happening around you, but also help the rest of our household too.

  • Use Google Chrome or Firefox as your default internet browser. If something doesn't open or work correctly, consider trying a different browser.

  • Download the Teams app on your device or use the online version. Follow the step-by-step guide to Office 365 on how to get started.

  • Sign into Teams with your school email and password. If you are unsure of your email or password, contact your teacher. More can be found in the Help your students get started with Microsoft Teams for Education document.

  • If you are learning on the Desire to Learn (D2L) platform, here is a document to get you started.

Usernames and Passwords

  • Have each student record their usernames and passwords for all programs in a secure location and support them in independently logging into accounts.

  • Use an Incognito & InPrivate windows to help manage multiple people using a shared device

General Internet Tips

  • Regularly 'Clear Browser History' to help things run more efficiently.

  • Limit the use of internet for other purposes (Netflix, YouTube, video games, etc.) by others while learners are online.

  • If you are still experiencing slowdown and lagging of your video meeting,  using audio only.
