Parent Involvement Committee

The purpose of the UCDSB-PIC is stated under Regulation 612 of the Education Act and indicates that:

27. (1) The purpose of a parent involvement committee is to support, encourage and enhance parent engagement at the board level in order to improve student achievement and well-being.  O. Reg. 330/10, s. 6.

(2) A parent involvement committee of a board shall achieve its purpose by,

(a)  providing information and advice on parent engagement to the board;

(b)  communicating with and supporting school councils of schools of the board; and

(c)  undertaking activities to help parents of pupils of the board support their children’s learning at home and at school.  O. Reg. 330/10, s. 6.

UCDSB-PIC Members:

Voting Members: 30

UCDSB-PIC aims for board wide and diverse representation that is inclusive. The breakdown of members is as follows:

• 20 ward representative members (2 per each of the10 wards)
• 2 AMBE and Indigenous representation
• 3 community members
• 5 general members*

Non-Voting Members: 5

• 1 Chief Executive Officer/designate
• 1 trustee
• 1 secondary principal
• 1 elementary principal

*To support its priority to create equitable representation of UCDSB parents/guardians, the membership selection committee may recommend that UCDSB-PIC, by vote, appoint up to five (5) additional parent members, regardless of their ward of residence, to ensure that traditionally marginalized groups, including, but not limited to, Black, Indigenous and People of Colour (BIPOC), 2SLGBTQIA+, persons with disabilities and neurodivergent communities are represented on PIC. 

UCDSB-PIC currently has five subcommittees:

3. PRO Grant Subcommittee
4. School Council Best Practices Subcommittee
5. Parent Awareness Campaign Subcommittee

UCDSB-PIC Meeting Information

UCDSB-PIC is mandated to have a minimum of four meetings each school year.
