Drumond Central School Hosts Jingle Dress Performer and Powwow Workout
Posted on 03/05/2024
Drummond Central School students welcomed Amanda Fox to the school for a jingle dress performance and powwow workout. Fox explained that the dance gets its name from the rows of ziibaaska’iganan (metal cones) sewed to the dress. Jingle dresses are believed to bring healing to those who are sick.
Fox is Ojibwe from Wiikwemkoong Unceded Territory on Manitoulin Island. Her goal is to provide accurate information about Indigenous culture in schools, using interactive and engaging ways, including the powwow workout.
