Trustees with the Upper Canada District School Board (UCDSB) met virtually on Wednesday, September 9, 2020 for their first regular board meeting of the 2020-2021 school year. Trustees conducted the meeting in person at the Brockville Board Office, with the option for Trustees to call in, as is the usual practice.

Update on Remote Learning and First Day of School
Update on Remote Learning and First Day of School

Late yesterday, staff were able to make several adjustments to the remote learning model for our school district and presented this last evening at a meeting with the UCDSB Board of Trustees. The new model has flexibility that families want and will allow the school district to better manage our staffing needs.

Programming Update & Moving Between Learning Models

The UCDSB has had an unanticipated amount of interest in remote learning, with 4,452 students (approximately 20 per cent of our student population) choosing this as their preferred learning model for the 2020-2021 school year. This has a direct impact on the ability for students to move between in-person and remote learning and vice-versa, and some programming for remote learners.

She works with each learner to make sure the TR Leger program is the right fit and that they are taking all the appropriate courses. She becomes their teacher, confidante and most importantly, their friend. She is invested in each of her students’ lives and celebrates milestones with them, no matter the size.

Majority of UCDSB Students Confirm Enrolment with 80% Choosing In-Person Learning

The Upper Canada District School Board Confirmation of Enrolment form – which was digitally circulated to parents and guardians on August 14 and was open until August 20 – received an 85% response rate, based on UCDSB projected enrolments for the 2020-2021 school year.

Director's Award of Merit Spring 2020 Recipient - Kim Cook

Kim Cook is the Office Assistant for the TR Leger School of Adult, Alternative and Continuing Education's Skills, Training and Employment Preparation Program (STEP). She is based in Almonte, but she helps instructors at all 19 of our campuses. It is not uncommon to hear the constant 'bing’ of her email and ringing of her phone when you are near her office, as many people seek her out for help.

Parent Feedback on the Distance Learning Model

The Upper Canada District School Board surveyed UCDSB parents and guardians to get feedback on our current distance learning model. Results showed that the majority of respondents said assignments are appropriate and the workload is manageable; and that they are pleased with the communications they are receiving from both their school and the school board.
