Letter to Parents: Drinking Water

As you may be aware, there have recently been several reports in the media on the presence of lead in the drinking water in Ontario schools. More specifically, several Upper Canada District School Board schools have been named as exceeding the Ontario threshold for lead in drinking water. We understand the importance of maintaining healthy environments for our students and staff and are writing to assure you that the drinking water in our schools is safe.

Hundreds of Students Compete at 2019 Upper Canada Cup Cross-Country Championships

On November 4, the Ministry of Education’s new policy that restricts the use of personal mobile devices during instructional time will go into effect. The Ministry defines a personal mobile device to be a personal electronic device that can be used to communicate or to access the Internet, such as a cellphone or a tablet.

TISS and CPHS bring home 2019 Upper Canada Cup Soccer Championships

Thousand Islands Secondary School is the 2019 Upper Canada Cup Boys Soccer Champion, while the 2019 Upper Canada Cup Girls Soccer Champion is Carleton Place High School. Both divisions played against North Grenville District High School in the finals.

If a strike by CUPE members does occur on Monday, October 7, the UCDSB will need to close all of our schools to students. We will not be able to operate our facilities or provide proper supervision and care to our students.

UCDSB and Queen’s University Enhance Rural and Remote Education for Pre-Service Teachers

Today is National Terry Fox School Run Day and, despite many school runs getting postponed due to weather, hundreds of students across the Upper Canada District School Board still took part in school runs today, with hundreds more taking part next week. All the money raised in these events go to the Terry Fox Foundation and supports cancer research.

As you may have heard, the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) has announced job action in response to the status of bargaining at the provincial level. This job action could take place as early as Monday September 30. This is job action that affects all school boards across Ontario. It is a result of the provincial dialogue between the Ministry of Education and CUPE. CUPE and the province have recently announced that they will continue bargaining on September 28 and 29, 2019.
