June 3, 2026 (Embrun, ON) – The Upper Canada District School Board (UCDSB) celebrated the groundbreaking of the new addition at Cambridge Public School alongside local dignitaries and school staff with a sod turning today.
The new addition will add 427 pupil places to the school, expanding the capacity of the school to approximately 686 students. This represents an $18.2 million investment in public education.
“Today is about investing in our children, supporting families, and strengthening our community. Embrun has grown significantly in recent years, and with that growth comes the need for safe, welcoming, and modern learning spaces for students,” said UCDSB Trustee Corina Parisien. “I want to thank the Ontario government, Minister of Education Paul Calandra, our local MPP Stéphane Sarrazin, and the many board staff, school leaders, educators, and community members who helped make this project possible. This expansion will give future generations more opportunities to learn, collaborate, and succeed.”
“Today marks an important milestone for students, families, school staff, and the broader school community,” said Stéphane Sarrazin, MPP for Glengarry–Prescott–Russell. “The addition at Cambridge Public School will provide modern learning spaces that support student success for years to come. As our region continues to grow, projects like this help ensure students have access to safe, welcoming, and high-quality learning environments where they can learn, grow, and reach their full potential.”
Currently, there are approximately 540 students enrolled at Cambridge PS, with 14 portables in use.
“We are incredibly thankful to the Minister of Education Paul Calandra and MPP Stéphane Sarrazin for the funding and support of this project. The Cambridge Public School community is growing and this new addition will allow the Upper Canada District School Board to continue to provide the community with quality public education,” added UCDSB Chief Executive Officer Ron Ferguson.
The projected opening date of the school addition is September 2028. The parking area, bus lanes, and drop-off areas will also be amended and upgraded as part of this project.
