Read Aloud Day

February 4, 2026 (Elgin, ON)South Crosby Public School was full of stories today as students and staff celebrated Read Aloud Day by welcoming members of the community into the school to read with each class. From familiar favourites to new adventures, classrooms were buzzing as students listened, learned, and shared in the joy of reading together.

Read Aloud Day highlights the important role reading plays in student learning and overall achievement. Reading aloud supports the development of strong literacy skills by building vocabulary, improving comprehension, and encouraging critical thinking. It also sparks imagination and helps foster a lifelong love of reading, showing students that books and stories can be enjoyed at every age.

This celebration also aligns with the Upper Canada District School Board’s ongoing commitment to strengthening reading skills across all grades. Through targeted literacy strategies, classroom instruction, and meaningful experiences like these, the UCDSB continues to focus on student success in reading and writing.

By opening their doors to community readers, South Crosby PS created a welcoming and learning environment while reinforcing the importance of reading as a foundation for success in school and in life.
