January 22 - Important Update on the UCDSB Cyber Incident

On January 6, 2025, the Upper Canada District School Board announced that it was responding to a cyber incident. Unfortunately, the Board’s investigation has revealed that the perpetrators of this cyber attack stole personal information concerning members of the UCDSB community. We understand this news may be concerning for people, and we are deeply sorry.
Please read the entirety of this notice to understand how it impacted members of our community.
As described in more detail in the sections below, those affected by the incident include current and former staff members, students and their parents or guardians, and donors or other payors to the Board office or Champions for Kids Foundation. The purpose of this announcement is to notify those affected by the incident, as well as to provide information about the credit monitoring service we will be providing to current and former employees as well as bursary students.

How can I protect myself?

We believe the risk of publication and misuse of the exposed information to be low. Nonetheless, if you are eligible for credit monitoring, we strongly encourage you to sign up. It is the best way to protect yourself against identity theft.

All of us should remain vigilant in identifying phishing attempts and other suspicious communications and regularly check our account statements for unauthorized transactions.

The Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre also provides additional information about how to protect yourself from identify fraud and other common frauds.

What's next?

We are aware that this incident has affected our community in a direct way, and again, we are deeply sorry for this. Our investigation is ongoing, and we may need to notify others in time. Know that we are also committed to strengthening our cybersecurity program to better protect against future incidents.

In the meantime, we have reported the incident to the Brockville Police Service and the Information and Privacy Commissioner of Ontario (IPC). You have the right to file a complaint with the IPC, although you are not required to do so as we have already voluntarily reported the incident to the IPC.
