May 30 - Follow-up to UCDSB Cyber Incident

On January 6, 2025, the Upper Canada District School Board (“UCDSB”) announced that it was responding to a cybersecurity incident. On January 22, the UCDSB issued a statement confirming that personal information had been exposed and began notifying those affected. At that time, it was noted that the investigation was ongoing and that further notifications would follow as more details became available.

The Board has now completed extensive analysis of the stolen data and has updated its description of impact on this page.

This completes the UCDSB’s notification process.

How can I protect myself?

We believe the risk of publication and misuse of the exposed information to be low. Nonetheless, if you are eligible for credit monitoring, we strongly encourage you to sign up. It is the best way to protect yourself against identity theft.

All of us should remain vigilant in identifying phishing attempts and other suspicious communications and regularly check our account statements for unauthorized transactions.

The Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre also provides additional information about how to protect yourself from identify fraud and other common frauds.

What's next?

We are aware that this incident has affected our community in a direct way, and again, we are deeply sorry for this. Know that we are also committed to strengthening our cybersecurity program to better protect against future incidents.

We have reported the incident to the Brockville Police Service and the Information and Privacy Commissioner of Ontario (IPC). You have the right to file a complaint with the IPC, although you are not required to do so as we have already voluntarily reported the incident to the IPC.
