CUPE Labour Update Nov. 16
Posted on 11/16/2022
Dear UCDSB Parents and Guardians,

Since our last update on November 7, the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) and the provincial government have been in ongoing negotiations. Today, CUPE provided us with notice that its members will proceed with a full withdrawal of services (strike) on Monday, Nov. 21 if a deal between CUPE and the provincial government is not reached.

If CUPE goes on strike, our schools will be closed to students. More information will come regarding remote learning in the event of a strike. CUPE represents a significant portion of our workforce, including custodians, early childhood educators, educational assistants, school office staff, IT staff, board office staff, and many other employees that are critical to operating our schools and supporting staff and students.

Community use of our schools would also be suspended for the duration of the strike. If you use a daycare provider that operates out of our schools, please contact them directly to see if your service will be impacted.

We know that labour action of this nature causes disruptions for families, and we hope that an agreement can be reached between CUPE and the provincial government prior to Monday.

Thank you,
Upper Canada District School Board
