September 12, 2024 - Trustees with the Upper Canada District School Board (UCDSB) met on Wednesday, September 11, 2024. Key items discussed in the public session are as follows.
Board Welcomes 2024-2025 Student Trustees
Student Trustees Maheen Riaz from Brockville Collegiate Institute and Annika Squires from Thousand Islands Secondary School publicly signed and verbally stated their declaration and oath of allegiance.
The duo were elected by their peers in February 2024 and will represent the voice of students at the Board table for the 2024-2025 school year. Both student trustees are eager to get going in their roles.
“I'm looking forward to building more of a bond between the schools since we have such a big school board,” says Riaz. “I want to make sure that everyone is heard and promote diversity around the district.”
“For me, my plan is to create an open environment for students who have learning disabilities,” says Squires. “As a student who has a learning disability, I want to help the in-between students. Those who are in the academic classes and willing to learn, they just might not know what they need to succeed.”
