2026 Eastern Ontario Junior Math Contest

April 17, 2026 (Kemptville, ON) – Students from across the region gathered at North Grenville District High School on Thursday, April 16 for the 2026 Eastern Ontario Junior Math Contest. The fun-filled day saw Grade 9 and 10 students test their math skills in individual and team challenges.

In total, 43 teams from 17 secondary schools from both the Upper Canada District School Board and the Catholic District School Board of Eastern Ontario participated in the competition.

The individual competition kicked off the day, seeing all students participate head-to-head in a timed event. Students had 12 minutes to answer 12 challenging math questions, with each right answer worth one point. Teams were also awarded points based on the results of members.

During the relay event, students worked as a team to solve a series of math problems. With answers being used in later questions, the total result rested solely on the success of each portion of the challenge.

“It's pretty gnarly out here,” said Masha Smolentseva-Felepchuk, from the Perth & District Collegiate Institute (PCDI) team “It's really fun, though.”

“It’s a great group of people and we’re having a really fun experience with everyone around us,” said PCDI teammate Charlotte Thake. “I feel pretty happy with how well we've been doing so far.”

“It is a Fabulous Day for Grade 9 and 10 math students,” said UCDSB Math Facilitator Angela Hunter. “It’s a day to celebrate and showcase the math skills that these students possess, and the perfect way to show how math can be fun in an engaging team approach. These are true mathletes who have trained their brains to high levels of achievement.”
