CUPE Labour Update

Dear Parents and Guardians,

Today, CUPE announced that its members will proceed with a full withdrawal of services or engage in a political protest on Friday, Nov. 4, if an agreement that is suitable to both parties is not reached, even if the provincial government passes legislation.

CUPE represents 25 per cent of our employees, including custodial/maintenance staff, school office and clerical staff, educational assistants, early childhood educators, library workers, and information technology staff. If CUPE participates in any kind of labour action or protest that takes staff out of schools, all UCDSB schools will be closed to studentsWe cannot safely operate schools without these employees.

Over the next few days, we will be preparing for remote learning in the event our schools close due to labour unrest. If you use a child care provider that operates out of our schools, please contact them directly with questions about if/how care will continue.

Community use within our schools will be suspended if CUPE staff are not in schools.

As the situation is rapidly changing, we encourage families to begin to make alternative child care arrangements. Once we know about the operational status of schools for Friday, Nov.4, we will let families know.

Thank you,

Upper Canada District School Board
