Director Update

Prior to heading into this extra-long weekend, I have a couple of updates and reminders to share with you, from both our local Medical Officers of Health and our school board.

As we are all aware, COVID-19 is still present within our regions. In an effort to minimize spread and keep our families and communities healthy, Medical Officer of Health Paula Stewart from the Leeds, Grenville & Lanark District Health Unit and Dr. Paul Roumeliotis, Medical Officer of Health from the Eastern Ontario Health Unit, are asking that families
practice extra vigilance and consider public health measures, such as: getting vaccinated, wearing masks in public spaces (including schools), checking for symptoms of COVID-19 daily and staying home when sick, and having only small gatherings of friends and family.

Please read the full letter from our region’s top doctors that outlines specifics around these measures, I hope that you will seriously consider their advice.

In light of this information from our local public health professionals, last evening at our regular Board of Trustees Meeting, Trustees passed a motion that strongly recommends that students, staff, and visitors wear quality, proper fitting masks while indoors at school. Please know, this is not a mandate and the ultimate decision to mask or not will remain with families.

However, as a reminder, there are some times when masking is required in our schools, as per the direction of Ontario public health, such as:

  • After completing a five-day self-isolation period after testing positive for COVID-19, learn more;
  • If you are identified as a close contact of someone with COVID-19, learn more; and
  • In public spaces, including schools and child cares, for the first 14 days following travel outside of Canada, learn more.

Thank you in advance for your attention and consideration of these matters.

Wishing you the best,
Ron Ferguson
