March 1, 2021 (Brockville, ON) – On Friday, February 26, the Upper Canada District School Board (UCDSB) Student Senators met for their third quarterly meeting and elected two new Student Trustees for the 2021-2022 school year.
Student Senate, which is made up of student leaders from each UCDSB secondary school and includes an Indigenous students’ representative, voted to elect Bradford Ward of Brockville Collegiate Institute (BCI) and Eshal Ali of Seaway District High School as the new student trustees. The election was held virtually through the Microsoft Teams platform.
Ward will act as Chair of the UCDSB Student Senate and Ali will act as Vice-Chair. Student Trustee Elect Ward is currently in Grade 11 and Student Trustee Elect Ali is in Grade 10.
In addition to serving as Chair and Vice-Chair of the Student Senate, the two Student Trustees will attend regular UCDSB Board of Trustee Meetings, provide brief reports to the Board of Trustees and have the opportunity to attend Ontario Student Trustee Association’s (OSTA-AECO) conferences.
“I am looking forward to working alongside Bradford and Eshal this coming year,” adds UCDSB Chair John McAllister. “As we continue to navigate through the pandemic while providing key learning experiences, it’s so important to have student voices at the Board table.”
The Student Trustee applications were narrowed down to five candidates, all of whom had an opportunity to present a speech, converse with the senators and answer questions from the assembly of school senators.
Ward’s and Ali’s term of office will run from August 1, 2021 to July 31, 2022. They will be replacing current Student Trustees Tain Hughes and Jordan Evans, who complete their term of office on July 31, 2021.
