Recent high school graduates or adults looking to get training and further their career prospects in the trades can now earn a Trades Micro-Credential Certificate through the TR Leger School of Adult, Alternative and Continuing Education.
The program, which is currently taking applications and set to start on September 13, will give students computer and soft skills training that are in high demand by employers, and introduce them to technical components of the trades, such as hydraulic and electrical principals.
After the two-week in-class portion, students will get the opportunity to put those skills to work with a hands-on experience. Students will complete a six-week, co-op work placement with industry partners such as Rush Truck Centres of Canada, Valley Bus Lines, Weagant Farm Supplies Ltd./Topline Trailers & Equipment Sales, Napa Auto Parts Canada, and Brockville Truck and Trailer Maintenance (2001) Ltd.
“We did research with our network of employers and they outlined an ongoing need for employees who have technical, computer and soft skills,” says TR Leger Principal Sandy McInnes. “This program is a win-win for both our students and employers. Our students will get skills training paired with practical and networking experience while employers will be introduced to skilled job candidates.”
This program is perfect for individuals who recently completed high school or any adult who wants to gain more skills and explore new career opportunities. This program is open to adults who have either completed or not yet completed their secondary school diploma. Credits earned from this course will be applied to the student’s high school transcript.
