Last week, we gave a snapshot of how our schools are giving back to their communities. Well, we couldn’t help but showcase more examples our school spirit and holiday giving as more schools within our board demonstrate a commitment to helping others.

Kemptville Public School Fills Truck with Food Drive
As Kemptville Public School staff and students got into the holiday spirit themed spirit days this week, they also stayed focused on their goal to give back to the community. The school ran a food drive, with all non-perishable food items going to the House of Lazarus. On Thursday, staff filled an entire truck bed with donations. Well done, KPS!
Centennial ’67 PS Creates Art for Brockville General Hospital Patients
Centennial ’67 Public School staff and students wanted to ensure that no one is forgotten over the holidays. When we think about isolation over the holiday season, that rings true for hospital patients as well. That’s why the Spencerville school community created Christmas pictures, which are being copied and distributed to the Brockville General Hospital patients throughout the month of December.
The school also contributed seven boxes of food to the South Grenville Food Bank through the Kinsmen Club of Prescott. Centennial – your efforts made our hearts grow three sizes!
Rideau Vista Public School Search for Runaway Gingerbread Men
Back in late November, Rideau Vista Public School staff members, Mrs. Donnelly and Mrs. Seed, talked to the kindergarten students about making recipes and baking gingerbread men. Unfortunately, once the cookies were constructed and before they were baked, they ran away. Their custodian saw the gingerbread men leaving Westport and heading towards Kingston and Perth. The school put out a message on social media asking people to keep an eye out for our gingerbread men and send them messages if they happened to see them. The school received many messages of sightings from all over the world, including St. Louis, Missouri, Vancouver, Honolulu and Switzerland.
One lady, who is an author, even put the gingerbread men into her book and they can be seen on several pages. She even sent Rideau Vista a copy of the book. Keep your eyes out for these two troublemakers…
Beckwith Public School Donates 3,000 lb. of Food
Beckwith Public School donated an incredible 3,019 lb. of non-perishable food items and over $1,500 in cash to the Lanark County Food Bank in Carleton Place.
The food bank was so grateful and joked that they’re going to need a bigger building. Way to go, Beckwith PS!
Leadership Initiative from Maxville Public School students
Grade 5 and 6 students from Maxville Public School took the holiday spirit into their own hands and ensured their student body had plenty to celebrate.
The Grade 5/6 class wanted to take the initiative to celebrate five spirit days earlier this month. As the “Kindness Crew”, they organized all the school’s kindness and spirit activities. Thank you to the 5/6 class for your leadership! We heard the students had a great time.
Cambridge Public School Families Collect Items for Local Nursing Homes
A community that cares is a community that shares! COVID-19 restrictions have been especially difficult for senior citizens, and Cambridge Public School wanted to bring them some cheer. The Cambridge families generously donated hundreds of items such as yarn, crossword books, toiletries, socks, blankets, and more. Earlier this week, they delivered them to four local retirement/nursing homes. Such kindness, Cambridge PS!
