Monique Favreau is a tireless, caring individual who ignites student confidence, identifies and develops program opportunities and inspires her colleagues daily.
As a guidance counsellor at the TR Leger School in Carleton Place, Monique reaches out to students to support them in both their learning and mental health. She seeks the right supports when needed and follows up with students on a regular basis. Monique provides support to students wishing to attend post-secondary studies, and even encourages those who don't think they can. Staff and students alike say she is a pleasure to work with. Seeing her transform students into celebrated, high-achieving graduates with a new-found sense of self-worth is something every staff member can aspire to.
Her wealth of knowledge around special education, guidance and college/university requirements makes her a go-to person for both staff and students. She has also brought her own learning and life experiences into the classroom. Monique also initiated and developed a Wellness Specialty High Skills Major (SHSM) for TR Leger and encourages students to participate, grow and complete the program.
Monique constantly seeks ways to enrich the student learning experience and, in doing so, betters the staff around her as they get caught up in her enthusiasm, excitement and love of teaching. She has engaged staff with her enthusiasm, kindheartedness and general care for the well-being of all. Monique is a huge reason many students return to their studies.
Monique is a fantastic leader to both the student body and the staff. She goes above and beyond the requirements of her role and is a constant source of positivity amidst the difficult time of the pandemic. The Upper Canada District School Board is pleased to recognize Monique’s leadership and guidance with a Winter 2021 Director’s Award of Merit.
