Jennifer Wagensveld, or Mrs. W as she's affectionately called, is known within the school community as a kind and caring educator who works hard to ensure every student feels supported and special. As a kindergarten teacher at Morrisburg Public School, Jennifer ensures her students are always looked after and she prioritizes their wellbeing both within and beyond the classroom.
One parent outlined that when their son had to quarantine due to close contact with a positive case of COVID-19, Jennifer knew the quarantine would affect the son’s mother’s job. Jennifer put together a care package and dropped it off to that student’s house. Jennifer also continuously checked with the family on their well-being. The student’s parent outlined that Jennifer’s kindness got their son and his family through a very uncertain time, and said that without Jennifer’s support, they would be lost. When asked about how this student feels about, Mrs. W, this young student had a quick and simple response: “I love her”.
For her caring and compassion, the Upper Canada District School Board is honoured to recognize Jennifer with a Winter 2021 Director’s Award of Merit.
