Erin’s Law: Protecting an Empowering Our Students
The Upper Canada District School Board is committed to providing students with safe, inclusive, and caring learning environments. Through classroom learning, school-based supports, and in collaboration with families and community partners, we are working together to ensure every child is provided with child abuse prevention education. The UCDSB endeavours for every child to be supported and empowered.
Erin’s Law ensures that all Ontario students receive age-appropriate education on personal body safety, healthy relationships, and recognizing, and reporting sexual abuse. This law empowers children and youth with the knowledge and skills to protect themselves and seek help from trusted adults.
Parents and caregivers are encouraged to speak openly with their children about these topics and to explore the resources below to learn more about Erin’s Law and the ways we can collectively safeguard the well-being of all students.
How Can Parents/Caregivers Support?
We believe that learning about safety and boundaries is a shared responsibility between school and home. You can support your child by:
- talking openly about safety, consent, and trusted adults; and
- reinforcing that they can come to you or a trusted adult (e.g. UCDSB staff) if something feels wrong; and
- be aware of and review provided resources.
Should you have any concerns or need support in having these conversations at home, reach out to your child’s teacher or school principal.
