June 16, 2025 – There are a lot of kids in the Brockville area that will have a happy birthday, thanks to two classes at Westminster Public School. April Bischof and Pam Russell's Grade 1/2 and Grade 3 class worked together to make birthday kits for the Brockville and Area Food Bank when they learned that items for special occasions were always in need.
Once they game up with the idea of making birthday kits, students held a food drive at school to collect donations and worked with community sponsors to come up with the kit supplies.
After a lot of hard work, the two classes put together 360 birthday kits – one to represent each child at Westminster PS. Each kit including a box cake, icing, candles, a plate, fork, napkin, instructions on how to bake the cake, even a hand drawn card and a custom designed 3D-printed key chain.
Thank you, Brockville Hyundai, Kinsmen Club of Brockville, Newterra, Trillium Health Care Products, McDonalds Brockville, Northern Cables, Canadian Tire Brockville and Thousand Island Secondary School for the support.
Problem solving, community connections and seeing your work make a difference in the world the around you – that’s what Real-World Learning is all about. Way to go Wildcats!
