November 14, 2024 (Carleton Place, ON)Grade 7 & 8 students from Carleton Place High School (CPHS) have launched Bears Broadcast, a new digital monthly newspaper featuring student-written articles, interviews, comics, and more.

Grade 7 student and Editor-in-Chief, Violet Demedeiros, spoke with CBC Ottawa Morning on November 14, and discussed the importance of a student-led newspaper, and how the project started.

“One of the biggest challenges we’ve faced are just collecting, coordinating and guiding all the information that students have collected and created into the right spot,” Demedeiros said. “All of the articles are written by our students and it’s mainly student-led, and I find that very cool.”

Listen to the entire interview with Violet on the CBC Ottawa Morning website.
