March 11, 2022 – Trustees with the Upper Canada District School Board (UCDSB) met on Wednesday, March 9, 2022. Some of the items discussed in the public session are as follows.

As part of the regular budget process update to the Board of Trustees, Executive Superintendent Jeremy Hobbs presented an overview of the 2022-23 Grants for Student Needs (GSN) funding. The funding projection is a slight increase from last year.

Hobbs shared there are a few unknown factors that could impact the UCDSB budget for the next school year, including: the provincial election, collective bargaining, inflation, future supports with the pandemic, and Workplace Safety and Insurance Board actuals.

A preliminary budget projection is expected to be shared with Trustees in late April or early May. While the full draft budget is anticipated in early June.

Superintendent Susan Rutters presented to Trustees the status of remote learning for the 2022-23 school year.
Rutters noted that the Ministry of Education is requiring all school boards in the province to make remote learning available for students who wish to select that option for the 2022-23 school year. Families received program information and registration details on March 4 about remote learning for the upcoming school year.
The UCDSB is moving away from the hybrid model that was used over the last two school years. Students who select remote learning will have a dedicated online teacher.
Families have until March 14 to register for remote learning for 2022-23 so that staffing can be appropriately assigned.

Student Trustees Bradford Ward and Eshal Ali officially announced to the Board the two Student Trustee elects for the 2022-23 school year - Janevra Pier from Gananoque Secondary School and Olivia Pereira from North Dundas District High School.

Pier will be Chair of Student Senate, Pereira will serve as vice chair.
