Rapid Tests

All Upper Canada District School Board (UCDSB) students who are learning in person are taking home a rapid antigen testing kit over the winter break. This is an initiative by the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Health to promote a safe return to school in January. All public schools in the province will be receiving these tests.

The UCDSB has taken an extra step and is supplying all UCDSB staff with a kit as well, should they want one.

The use of these rapid antigen test kits, for staff and students, is voluntary and not a pre-requisite for students or staff for returning to school/work in January 2022. They are an added measure in keeping our school community well.

These test kits should not replace the good habits we’ve all become accustomed to such as regular COVID-19 screening, masking, social distancing and staying home when we are feeling unwell.

These tests are intended to be used by asymptomatic students and staff, regardless of their vaccination status, every 3-4 days over the Winter Break, which runs from December 20 to January 2. Classes resume on January 3.

Instructions on how to use these tests are provided when distributed, but can also be found here:

If a student or staff member receives a positive result on a rapid test, they should seek a confirmatory PCR test as soon as possible at a local testing site or pharmacy that offers testing and isolate until otherwise directed by public health.

For information on where to get PCR tests in your community, please contact your local public health unit.
