Sue van LeeuwenSue van Leeuwen is a dedicated and caring Special Education Teacher who goes above and beyond for her students at South Grenville District High School.

Her care and dedication were magnified during the recent unprecedented Learn at Home period, following the COVID-19 health crisis. Sue conducted numerous one-to-one synchronous e-learning sessions with her students daily. She consulted with teachers and parents and was constantly reaching out to students to ensure they were on track, checking on their overall physical and emotional wellness in addition to their academics. Students and families were reminded of how deeply she cares about them and their well-being.

Sue approaches each of her learners with differentiation, time and patience. She is a great listener and provides valuable input that is both kind and intelligent. Many parents have given positive feedback emphasizing the difference Sue has made for their child in both their academics and overall well-being.

As a team player, Sue shares her knowledge in Special Education with others and is always willing to sit down and discuss how to best support SGDHS students and their learning. The staff at SGDHS appreciate her innovative ideas, solutions and problem-solving skills.

For truly making a difference in her students’ lives and contributing to a positive school experience, the Upper Canada District School Board is proud to honour Sue with a Director’s Award of Merit.
