Nancy LalondeNancy Lalonde has gracefully endured changes during her teaching career and currently teaches a Grade 1/2/3/4 split class at Rothwell-Osnabruck School (R-O).

She is an empowering Learning Resource Teacher (LRT) who uses differentiation and individualized teaching in action, as each student in her class works on a personalized program.

Under Nancy’s direction and support as an LRT, the staff at R-O works as a cohesive team, constantly sharing observations and exchanging ideas to ensure the needs of every student are met. She has changed the life trajectory of many at-risk students with her nurturing disposition and her remarkable ability to connect with families. She provides an exemplary level of support to her students on a daily basis.

Nancy does not stop working to improve her students’ school experience. In her continued support of students with special needs, she collaborated with administration, teaching staff, parents and educational assistants to create the school’s first sensory room.

Nancy responds to difficult circumstances by offering to help. When the recent health crisis hit and the school was looking to establish connections with our student community, Nancy came up with creative messages to post to the school Facebook page. She then encouraged families to send photos and she posted fun collages of students to social media to help lift spirits during this difficult time. The R-O Facebook page is filled with examples of her creativity, community engagement and positive messaging.

For building connections with her students, positively impacting their school experience and connecting with the community, the Upper Canada District School Board is proud to honour Nancy with a Director’s Award of Merit.
