Kaydance McMillan with the book Wild

January 20, 2020 (Morrisburg, ON) – Kaydance McMillan, a Grade 3 student at Morrisburg Public School was chosen to have her short story “Who’s in the Basement?” published in the book Wild, a compilation book of student stories published annually.

McMillan started writing her short story last year. She explains that her story, featuring a family and their move to a new house, was inspired by the Goosebumps book series.

She entered her completed piece into the annual Polar Expressions Publishing summer writing contest. This contest encourages Canadians to express themselves through writing and is open to all ages, with a book dedicated to young authours. Approximately one third of the short stories and poems are published in the keepsake soft cover book collection each December.

The book Wild includes short stories and poems by young Canadian authours 15 years of age and younger and is available to purchase online. McMillan and her family donated a signed copy to the Morrisburg PS library.

“We are very proud and inspired by Kaydance and her amazing writing skills,” explains Krista Mano, Principal of Morrisburg PS. “Her class is starting a writing project where each student will have their short story featured in a class book.”
