New Funding for Expansion Projects
Two Kemptville Schools Receive Funding for Expansion Projects
Posted on 01/10/2020

Today the Ministry of Education announced that the Upper Canada District School Board (UCDSB) will receive funding for expansion projects at North Grenville District High School (NGDHS) and Kemptville Public School (KPS).

This new funding and approval will allow the UCDSB to proceed with plans to add a 23,357 square-foot addition to NGDHS, which will provide new, quality learning space to accommodate 221 students. The school, which was built in 2012, currently has 891 students enrolled.

At KPS the funding has been allocated to a 9,719 square-foot expansion project that will see 49 new child care spaces, three new child care rooms as well as two EarlyON Child and Family Centre rooms. The addition of these new child care and early years programming spaces is an opportunity for the school to share the facilities with more members of the community.

“We are thrilled to receive this new funding. Our community in Kemptville is growing and the addition to North Grenville District High School is one that will be well received and appreciated by students, staff and parents,” says John McAllister, Chair of the Upper Canada District School Board. “The child care spaces and an EarlyON Centre at Kemptville Public School will allow us to enhance relationships with parents and the ability to show off our great facility. What a wonderful way to start 2020.”

The NGDHS project will move into the tendering phase this spring with a projected completion date of January 2022. The KPS project is currently in the site plan process and being worked through at the municipal level.

“The nearly $10 million our government is providing for these critical projects in one of Eastern Ontario’s fastest-growing communities demonstrates our commitment to supporting students, parents and educators,” says Leeds-Grenville-Thousand Islands and Rideau Lakes MPP Steve Clark.Whether they are just starting their educational journey or preparing to choose a career path, we want students to have the best learning environment possible.”
