October 29, 2019 (Mallorytown, ON) – Front of Yonge Elementary School welcomed 11 Grade 5 students and three teachers from Maple Bear International School located in São Paulo, Brazil on Monday, Oct. 21. The group of international learners will be here until Nov. 2.

Each school day, the Brazilian students attend Front of Yonge for regular school programming as they are interested in learning what it is like to be a Canadian student. Half the students are in Mr. Crawford’s grade 4/5 class and the others are with Mrs. McLean’s grade 5/6 class.

In the evenings, the school has been organizing special outings from learning to curl, to museum visits and even a trip to Toronto.

“This is a great learning opportunity for not only the Brazilian students, but for our students as well,” explains Front of Yonge Principal Jennifer Moore. “We are all learning so much from each other and we are very happy to share our hospitality.”

The Principal and Academic Coordinator of Maple Bear International School, a school of Canadian studies, contacted Moore two years ago to start organizing this unique opportunity. Since then, the two schools have organized Skype video calls to get to know each other prior to their visit.
