May 6, 2019 (Spencerville, ON) – Eight-year-old Raegan Wallace from Centennial ’67 Public School raised $2,053 for her fundraiser Raegan’s Hair for Care that will be split evenly between funding a new play structure at the school and a donation to CHEO.

On Friday, the Grade 3 student took to the stage and had her shoulder-length hair shaved with her whole school and family cheering her on.

Raegan’s Hair for Care collected donations from both the school and community. The fundraiser was announced over the radio, letters were sent home with students, a Facebook post was written, and donation jars were placed throughout the community to quadruple her initial goal of $500.

Wallace explained that the reason she started this fundraiser is “to support everyone with cancer”, but she wanted to use some of the money for her peers to enjoy a new play structure on the schoolyard.

“We wanted to acknowledge what amazing character Raegan has at this assembly,” explained Leann Bruley, Principal of Centennial ’67 Public School. “We are so proud of her perseverance, courage and kindness and we are so glad to be a part of this journey.”
