Upper Canada District School Board’s South Crosby Public School hosted their 9th annual Senior’s Valentine Breakfast on Thursday, February 14.

Grades 4, 5 and 6 students greeted, served and entertained more than 80 seniors in the red-and-pink decorated gymnasium at South Crosby Public School.

Community members Marwin and Kathi Antoine donated the maple syrup and local businesses including Pittsburg Packers, Frontenac Dairy, and Gordanier’s Grocery generously donated or provided discounts for the food and beverages, while students, staff and volunteers contributed their time.

“We are very fortunate to have an incredible group of staff members and volunteers,” says Principal Monique Antoine-Hartley, at the breakfast. “Our helpers came in at 7 a.m. to make sure the show went on.”

Antoine-Hartley has been principal at the school for nine years and started this event to encourage more community involvement at the school. Now, the event’s purpose is to thank community members for their support throughout the year.

“It is so great to see our students learn important life skills at events like these,” added Antoine-Hartley. “They have the chance to prepare and serve food to their guests, while at the same time, engage in conversation.”
