Feast and Celebration in Smiths Falls
May 5, 2017 (Smiths Falls, ON) – The Upper Canada District School Board is hosting a special Indigenous gathering May 8th, 2017 as part of efforts to discuss reconciliation and provide opportunities for learning, openness and conversations.
The Truth and Reconciliation +2 Gathering – Reflection and Renewal Feast and Celebration will take place at Duncan J. Schoular Public School in Smiths Falls. Our goal is to renew our commitment to the process of reconciliation as envisioned by the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada. The celebration, led by students, will include an Indigenous feast, presentation of traditional gifts to UCDSB Indigenous teachers, remarks by Director of Education Stephen Sliwa and other dignitaries, a Unity Song and Dance, a Round Dance, an Orange Shirt Garden, presentation of a Bentwood Box and a Closing and Travelling Song.
