2017-18 Student Trustee Marshall Wilson
April 24, 2017 (Roebuck, ON) – The Upper Canada District School Board Student Senate elected its 2017-18 Student Trustee at its final senate meeting for this school year on April 21, 2017 in Roebuck, Ontario. They are pleased to announce that Marshall Wilson of Glengarry and District High School will represent students on the Board of Trustees for the 2017-18 school year, replacing outgoing Student Trustee Grace Maher who completes her term of office on July 31, 2017.
After four nominations were received for candidates, Student Senators were thrilled to welcome Student Trustee-elect Marshall Wilson to represent them at the Board table.
Trustee-elect Wilson ran on a platform of a greater student voice at the Board table as well as in Student Senate. Wilson grew up in Quebec and moved to the Upper Canada District School Board at age 12, joining the Board immediately and becoming active within his school, community, and in competitive swimming.
In his victory speech, Wilson thanked both those who voted for him and also those who did not because he appreciated that they would challenge him to think of the importance of what choices he will make as Student Trustee. He also thanked all of the other nominees for their participation in the process.
Wilson indicated that he plans to increase the frequency of Student Senate meetings in 2017-18 and would like to extend the reach of Senate through smaller, more targeted, and achievable initiatives geared towards students.
Chair of the Upper Canada District School Board Jeff McMillan welcomed Student Trustee-elect Wilson to his role and thanked outgoing Student Trustee Grace Maher for her hard work on behalf of students at the Board level.
