Public Input Sought on UCDSB 2012-13 School Calendar

(Brockville) – The Upper Canada District School Board is seeking public input on its draft 2012-13 school calendar.

The draft has already been introduced to school councils across the Board, and now members of the general public have a chance to provide their input. The Board is taking comments until Tuesday, February 21.

A key part of this year’s calendar is the scheduling of the Christmas holidays, which run from December 24 – January 4 inclusive, said Superintendent David Coombs.

“It’s a good proposal because it breaks up the holiday, leaving time after New Years to enjoy time with family, but still a day before Christmas to get that last-minute shopping done,” said Coombs.

This year’s calendar will also start after the Labour Day holiday. School kicks off September 4, giving students in our area working in the tourism industry a few more days at that summer job.

Members of the general public have until 4:00 p.m. on February 21 to provide their comments on the calendar. The draft will then be submitted to the province for approval next month.
