Ronathahon:ni Cultural Centre Travel Troupe Presents at SLSS
(Cornwall) – The grades 7-8 students at St. Lawrence Secondary School (SLSS) enjoyed a presentation by the Ronathahon:ni Cultural Centre Travel Troupe November 30 in the school’s gymnasium.
The group’s presentation included dance, history and storytelling. According to the Ronathahon:ni Cultural Centre Web site, the group members consist of those with knowledge of the Haudenosaunee lifeways.
These interpreters visit schools, communities and events throughout Canada and the United States year-round.
Teacher Abigail Fontaine said the presentation directly relates to the grades 7-8 history and geography curriculum, as well as the dance and music curriculum.
“We hope the students, especially those of mixed heritage not in touch with their roots, come away with a newfound appreciation of our neighbouring culture,” she said. “It is best for all worlds when we learn about and accept our past differences and embrace our current peace and brotherhood while working together for our collective future.”
