(Prescott) – A local transportation company has stepped up to support the Soup for the Soul Community Dinner in Prescott – for the next ten years.
Organizers announced at the 10th annual dinner Sunday afternoon that Kriska Transportation of Prescott would become the major sponsor of the community event. The company has agreed to donate up to $5,000 a year to ensure the dinner remains a tradition in Prescott until its 20th anniversary.
“I was thrilled and really excited,” said organizer Marla Campeau, following the announcement before more than 500 people during the dinner at South Grenville District High School. “I had a huge smile on my face.”
Campeau said the commitment from Kriska will reduce the pressure on both organizers and the small businesses that they solicit annually to support the dinner. The French teacher at South Grenville said while small businesses in the area are consistently generous, Kriska’s donation will bring financial stability to the dinner.
Kriska President Mark Seymour said he opted to support the dinner because his company was looking to back something “meaningful and powerful that has an impact on people.” Seymour said he was proud to participate in an event that allows students to “step up and develop into future leaders.”
This year’s dinner was put on with the help of an army of nearly 80 South Grenville staff and students who had worked since Friday to prepare for the event. Guests enjoyed a feast of turkey, potatoes, corn, rolls and gravy. There was entertainment from dancers and a fiddler during the dinner, which also offered a visit with Santa.
