Centennial ’67 Public School Hosts
34th Annual Grandparents Dinner
(Spencerville) – It was a chance for students to enjoy an early Christmas dinner with grandma and grandpa Wednesday as Centennial ’67 Public School hosted its 34th annual Grandparents Dinner.
The event attracted about 100 guests, who enjoyed turkey with all the fixings, mashed potatoes, salad, dinner rolls and other fare as well as a musical performance by junior students from the school. Each student was allowed to invite one grandparent to the free lunch, held at the Drummond Building in Spencerville.
“This is a great way for our students to demonstrate the value of caring by doing something special for a family member,” said Principal Jo-Anne Smith. “It’s also a way for grandparents to have some quality bonding time with their grandchildren.”
Grades 4, 5 and 6 students at the school helped prepare the meal by assisting adult volunteers, helped to serve the meal to their guests and also created Christmas crafts, which were given to grandparents to take home as keepsakes from the dinner.
