(Carleton Place) – Carleton Place District High School (CPHS) invited the grade 8 students from feeder schools to visit CPHS yesterday for a transition day.
The visiting students from Arklan Community Public School, Beckwith Public School, Caldwell Street Public School and Carambeck Public School watched a series of presentations from the CPHS Student Council, staff members involved with sports, music and drama, as well as the leads of the school’s Specialist High Skills Major programs in Construction and Health and Wellness and Sports.
Students also toured the school to hear from teachers about the courses CPHS has to offer. Students had the chance to visit science, business, drama, English, French, math, music, and art classrooms.
Beckwith students Phillipa MacDonald and Kyle Lepage – both with sisters already at CPHS – were glad they had the opportunity to tour the school before September 2012.
“It’s really fun,” said MacDonald. “You get to learn what high school is really like.”
“You get to interact with new people,” said Lepage
“It’s preparation so that we’re ready for what goes on next year,” said MacDonald. “We get to see that it isn’t as scary as it looks.”
