BCI Photography Students Taking Christmas Portraits

(Brockville) – A Christmas tradition has begun at Brockville Collegiate Institute (BCI).

Students in the school’s photography class are offering to take Christmas portraits for people in the community who may not have the means to have them done professionally.

While the class is accepting donations should their client’s wish, the main goal is to offer a realistic learning opportunity for BCI students to use the school’s portrait studio and lighting systems.

Photography teacher Sarah Fernetich said she got the idea after one of her students asked if she could use the studio to take a Christmas portrait of a friend in the community and her young daughter.

“The picture turned out amazing so it gave me the idea that maybe we should open it up to the public,” said Fernetich.

Fernetich’s students will take the photos under her supervision, Photoshop them to improve their quality, and then put them on a memory stick to be given to clients. The clients will then print their pictures themselves at stores with photo machines.

Anyone interested in signing up for the program is asked to e-mail Fernetich at sarah.fernetich@ucdsb.on.ca.
