(Perth)In the spirit of giving back during this Christmas season, the staff and students at Perth and District Collegiate Institute (PDCI) found a number of ways to be generous.

Throughout December, many staff members signed up for payroll deductions for the Upper Canada District School Board’s Champions for Kids Foundation. In addition, students donated food items for the Lanark County Food Bank and Perth and District Food Bank.  More than 600 items were collected, and approximately $350 was raised.

“A dedicated group of teachers created an amazing float for the Perth Santa Claus parade, and were joined by students and the school mascot which impressed the crowds on the night of the event,” said teacher Sharon Bourque. “Their hard work was rewarded with a first place ribbon in their class.”

In addition, students volunteered to be “Elves” and were auctioned off to staff and students, ready to be helpers for a day.  Fifty per cent of the money raised was donated to Champions for Kids, and a cheque for $375 was presented to Bill Loshaw, First Vice-President of the foundation. On the second last day of school before holidays, students presented a talent show, with donations going to Champions.
