Iroquois Public School to Host Digital Literacy Event
(Iroquois) – Iroquois Public School’s Parent Council is hosting its first “Digital Literacy” event on Wednesday night.
Students and their parents can attend the evening to participate in a variety of seminars on new technologies available for use at home and school to develop literacy skills, said Principal Kelty Grant.
“It’s a chance to learn how your child and you can make use of common technology such as iPhones and iPods, as well as educational Web sites, to help in students’ learning,” said Grant.
The evening begins at 6:00 p.m. in the school gym. Presentations will be given at 6:15 p.m. and 6:45 p.m. Participants can attend their choice of two of four free sessions. Child care will also be available at no cost.
Sessions available include:
1) Brain Pop and iknowthat.com: Offered by Mike Singh from “SoftWheretoLearn”, this session will use computers to access and share information on two Web sites – Brain Pop and iknowthat.com – that have excellent school-related activities for students in Kindergarten to Grade 6. This session takes place in the school’s computer lab.
