Buses Cancelled Wednesday, Feb. 1, Exams Rescheduled Until Thursday, Feb. 2

(Brockville) – Freezing rain overnight prompted the Upper Canada District School Board (UCDSB) to cancel buses this morning. While schools remain open, high school exams scheduled for today will be moved to Thursday, February 2. Semester 2 classes will now begin at most of our high schools on Monday, February 6.

Four UCDSB high schools – Tagwi Secondary School, Rothwell-Osnabruck School, Russell High School and Athens District High School – have no exams scheduled for today. Semester 2 classes will begin at those high schools on Thursday as originally scheduled, said Superintendent David Coombs.

A storm system brought patches of freezing rain to our area overnight, and it is expected to continue throughout most of the regions of our Board between 8:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m.

“Our forecasters also emphasized the unpredictability of this weather system and this was another factor in our decision to cancel for the safety of our students,” explained Coombs.

In some areas of our Board, road ploughs have been pulled off the road due to treacherous conditions.  Other areas are clear on primary roads but the rural routes are slick.

“It may be challenging driving out there today,” said Coombs. “We encourage everyone traveling our roads to be careful out there.”
