Step Into Motion Dance Festival 2012 Goes Broadway & Partners with Momentum Dance Challenge
(Cornwall) – Registration will soon be open for Step Into Motion (SIM) 2012: Going Broadway. This year, the event will focus on a number of dance styles, including those used in Broadway musicals and plays.
This year’s event, which will take place May 16-19 in Cornwall, will feature a variety of workshops for Upper Canada District School Board (UCDSB) students and staff members, as well as the general public.
In addition, SIM has partnered with Momentum Dance Challenge 2012, an Orleans-based dance company that gives student dancers a chance to represent their school by participating in a friendly and entertaining showcase involving students from Cornwall to Ottawa.
Although the Momentum Dance Challenge takes place April 27, SIM Chair Gisele Paquette said UCDSB participants of the Momentum Challenge will have the opportunity to present at SIM, if enough UCDSB schools register to participate.
“We need five schools to run a Momentum Dance Challenge presentation at SIM, but at the moment, we only have two,” said Paquette. “It would be really great to have more schools involved so more students could perform and show off their skills.
“Principals and teachers are welcome to contact Momentum Dance Challenge for more information or to register their school,” she added.
Paquette said the purpose of SIM is to encourage dance in schools and throughout eastern Ontario.
“This festival promotes the performing arts and dance education,” she said. “Every year, various schools and artists are showcased, performing for the community and local students. The event offers the chance for all participants to attend and take part in professional dance workshops.”
More information about SIM will be released shortly.
