Oxford-on-Rideau Public School Grade 8s Learn About Life at North Grenville District High School

(Pictured above: NGDHS guidance counsellor Anne Parry talks to grade 8 students at Oxford-on-Rideau Public School about grade 9 course selection.)

(Kemptville) – North Grenville District High School (NGDHS) Principal Steve Sharp and guidance counsellor Anne Parry visited the grade 8 students at Oxford-on-Rideau Public School last Thursday to talk to students about all of the exciting things they can look forward to when they start grade 9 next year.

Parry spent some time talking to students about the compulsory and elective courses that students are required to take to earn their Ontario Secondary School Diploma.

She also discussed arts opportunities, destination pathways, timetabling, extracurricular activities and the school’s Specialist High Skills Major programs in Transportation, Health and Wellness, and Communication and Design.

Following Parry’s presentation, Sharp talked to students about what everyday life is like at NGDHS. To further showcase student life, Sharp showed a digital presentation he had created with photos of students and staff, which played along with music.

Both Sharp and Parry talked about the new school building that will be available to students and staff September 2012.

“We love where we are now, but we’re super excited to move to the new building,” said Sharp. “We know we’ll have even more great energy there.

“We take school seriously, but we also have a really good time,” he added.

Following the presentation, Parry showed students how to register for courses on-line.

Students Lindsay Hutchins and Travis Bernhardt said they liked the presentation, and are excited for high school.

“I’m excited to meet new people and learn new subjects,” said Hutchins.

“It’s going to be a large, brand new school,” said Bernhardt.

Both students know other students who currently attend NGDHS, and they’ve only heard good things about it.

“I’ve heard that they loved it,” said Hutchins. “It will be a nice change.”

Sharp and Parry will be giving a similar presentation to the grades 6-7 students this week.
