News on Provincial School Reopening Plan
Posted on 06/19/2020

Today, the Ministry of Education released its guidelines for how school districts should plan for reopening and welcoming students in the fall. School boards are being asked to develop plans for three scenarios:

  1. Students are back in class, instruction is delivered face-to-face with enhanced health & safety measures;

  2. Use of an “adapted delivery” strategy, where classes have no more than 15 students per class with alternating in-person attendance to ensure physical distancing (for example: classes split in half and attending every other day) and other enhanced health and safety measures, and;

  3. Students continue with distance learning with online daily instruction.

The Minister of Education stressed that the scenario that is implemented will be dependent on the status of the public health situation at the time and parental choice.

Our school district has been working diligently over the last three weeks in anticipation of this news and has developed a draft plan. We will take the guidance from the Ministry, adapt our plan accordingly and update families in early August at the latest with more clarity on what the fall will look like.

The provincial government has also released details about the Grants for Student Needs, which is where the majority of our school board funding comes from. This is critical information for planning for the upcoming school year.

We encourage all families to sign up for My Family Room so that news and updates can be delivered to your inbox.

We will also continue to update  our website  and social media (@UCDSB on  Twitter and Facebook, @uppercanadadsb on Instagram) with information throughout the summer.
