Posted on 08/04/2021

The Ministry of Education released its back-to-school plan for the 2021-2022 school year on August 3. The guidelines give details about in-person learning, mask requirements, self-screening measures, programming availability, extra-curriculars and more.

You can read the full provincial return to school guidelines here: https://s3.documentcloud.org/documents/21033870/ontarios-2021-2022-guide-to-reopening-schools.pdf

The UCDSB will be reviewing the guidelines and working with our local public health units to finalize how we will carry out these guidelines in our schools. Once those plans are finalized, we will share more details with our families.

Some items to highlight at this time are:

  • Students will return to in-person learning daily for the full school day (5 instructional hours), however remote learning will remain an option. More details on remote learning can be found here. Students who require access to an emergency remote learning option to start the 2021-22 school year, must notify the school principal by contacting the school between August 23, 2021 – September 1, 2021.

  • Staff and students in Grades 1-12 will be required to wear masks while indoors and on student transportation (encouraged for students in Kindergarten), while not being required outdoors.

  • Extra-curricular and inter-school sport activities will be permitted with some modifications.

  • Music classes with wind instruments may be able to occur if safety protocols can be met.

  • All students and staff will need to screen for COVID-19 symptoms each day, prior to attending school or work.

  • Contacts will be limited with secondary students, with students having only two courses for the fall term. The UCDSB has already planned for quadmesters for the first half of the school year. View the current secondary school calendar.

When we have more specific details about what this means for our schools and your family, we will send an update to parents through My Family Room and share on social media. If you are not signed up for My Family Room, you can create an account here.
