Julie Lalonde

This open-minded, determined and caring Instructional Assistant is being recognized for her encouragement and inspiration towards her students at TR Leger School of Adult, Alternative and Continuing Education, Cornwall Campus.

Julie Lalonde has been an instrumental part of the TR Leger school for over 18 years.  She is responsible for the Prior Learning Assessment and Recognition (PLAR) assessments at the campus and works with some of the school board’s most vulnerable students. She puts a lot of time and effort into her work, and even goes as far as purchasing groceries, cooking and making coffee at the campus so that her students have healthy meals and can focus on their work.

Students are greeted each and every day by Julie’s warm smile and welcoming “good morning.” She cares deeply about her students, not just in their academic life but their personal life too. She is a friend, keeps them engaged and encourages them to be the best versions of themselves and follow their dreams.

Julie sets her students up for success and is constantly cheering them on. One of her students explained that because of Julie, many things are coming true that they thought were not possible. This student is graduating with their high school diploma this year, enrolled in post-secondary, and are planning to get their D-Z license, First Aid and CPR certifications. This student explained that they could not have achieved this level without Julie’s guidance and are very grateful for her.

For her kind heart, setting her students up for success and cheering them on, the Upper Canada District School Board is proud to honour Julie with a Director’s Award of Merit.
