(Waterloo) - Two Upper Canada District School Board students walked away with medals this week at the Ontario Technological Skills Competition at RIM Park in Waterloo.

Kate Moffatt, a Grade 12 student at Char-Lan District High School , won silver and an $800 prize in the Workplace Health and Safety Competition, while Grade 11 North Dundas District High School student Bobby Walker took bronze for the second-straight year in the small powered equipment event. Both students received their awards at a medal ceremony on Wednesday morning.

“I feel it was a pretty big accomplishment,” said Moffatt of her medal. “It was also a great opportunity because it opened my eyes as to how many trades there are and the careers that are available.”

“It felt pretty good,” added Walker of his third-place finish. “I wasn’t sure how I was going to do with a lot more people competing this year. It felt great to know I was consistent.”

Both students plan to move on to careers in the trades. Moffatt will study civil engineering technology next year at La Cité Collégiale in Ottawa, while Walker has long-term plans to become a diesel mechanic.
