UCDSB Reaches Tentative Local Agreement with
ETFO Upper Canada Occasional Teacher Local

(Brockville) – The Upper Canada District School Board (UCDSB) reached a tentative memorandum of settlement Friday with the Elementary Teachers’ Federation of Ontario (ETFO) Upper Canada Occasional Teacher Local. This local settlement, when ratified by the UCDSB and the membership of the ETFO OT local, will complete the bargaining process for elementary occasional teachers and complements the agreement on provincial issues achieved on November 2. Terms of the local settlement will remain confidential until ratified by both parties.

The ETFO Upper Canada Occasional Teacher Local represents 500 elementary occasional teachers working in UCDSB schools.

“I am very pleased with the progress we have made in this tentative agreement,” said Chair Jeff McMillan. “Each new agreement we reach takes us one step further to a state of normalcy where the focus is on student achievement and wellness.”

“We are pleased to learn of this outcome,” commented Director Stephen Sliwa. “We are certainly looking forward to renewing our working relationship with our occasional teachers, as we work collaboratively to support student learning in our district.”

“I believe that we have negotiated a fair agreement,” added Diane Dewing, president of the ETFO Upper Canada Occasional Teacher Local. “We look forward to continuing our work with the board to support our teachers in UCDSB classrooms.”

The local will host information and ratification meetings for its membership in Cornwall on December 15 and in Smiths Falls on December 17. Final vote results will be available on December 18. The Board of Trustees has also scheduled a ratification vote on December 9.

The UCDSB continues in negotiations with the ETFO local representing permanent elementary teachers, and the CUPE bargaining unit representing support staff. Bargaining on local issues for these unions is ongoing and the UCDSB remains optimistic that those processes will be brought to a conclusion in a timely and cooperative manner
